After graduating from the University of Calgary, I started Altitude Athletic Therapy and Fitness Training with the hopes of helping people become healthy, active and as close to pain-free as possible. What started as a small business training clients one-on-one in a downtown Calgary gym, quickly grew to what it is today. A health and wellness business serving clients not only in Calgary, but also in the rural areas of Linden/Acme/Beiseker.

I started instructing with the Altitude team in May 2016. I am loving my time spent with the men and women who come to boot camp. I have always believed that people should be able to live, move (pain free!) and be healthy. I developed a passion to help people like YOU take the steps to achieve these things! My passion has driven me to complete my degree in Kinesiology from the University of Alberta as well as obtain my CPT (Certified Personal Trainer) certification through CSEP.

  • Easy does it ?  I love it!  I've been attending this boot camp for over a month and already I have noticed improvement.  It's comforting to know that our instructors understand the importance of us doing the exercises correctly so we don't hurt ourselves.  I also appreciate the fun we can have in class.  You can't beat having fun and knowing you are doing something good for yourself at the same time!  It's a thumbs up to Sarah and her team!

  • About a year ago I began having trouble with my left shoulder.  I tried some physiotherapy but the shoulder continued to get worse.  Eventually I had x-rays and ultrasound where it was determined it was bursitis in the shoulder with symptoms of frozen shoulder.  Sarah along with other health care specialists advised I have a cortisone shot which I did.  After this I continued treatment to the point where those I was working with felt they had done all they could. Mobility in the shoulder at this point was still pretty limited although progress had been made.  At this time (about 4 months ago) I started Athletic Therapy with Sarah at Altitude. Sarah’s thorough examination and assessment of what the limits of my abilities were, her knowledge of which muscles to work with to further free mobility in the shoulder have been so encouraging.  She is willing to listen to my concerns and help me find exercises that are producing great results.  She has worked with other healthcare professionals, building on their expertise to provide great care.  Though it’s been a long process, Sarah’s contribution to this process is yielding great results and each time I’m able to reach behind me to help one of our grandkids in the car, put on a jacket without pain or take part in an exercise class with more strength and confidence I am thankful for Sarah’s help!  She is professional, thorough, so caring and conscientious!  We are so privileged to have this kind of care here in our small community.

  • We are so lucky to have amazing fitness classes and instructors in our rural area for the advanced, beginner, young, and old, who are wanting to improve their overall health!     Sarah and staff are super knowledgeable when it comes to fitness and well being and make working out so much fun!!   I have been attending boot camp for almost 3 years now and my fitness and strength have improved a lot.  I have learned the proper techniques, especially when it comes to strength training, to avoid any kind of injuries.

  • Altitude fitness classes have been great!  Sarah has inspired & encouraged us to stick with "boot camp" for seven years - it has become an important part of my life. Bernice has been a great addition to her training staff & I know I will get a rigorous & safe workout.  Form is always important & I appreciate the tips/reminders from both of them, as well as alternatives/suggestions to maximize a workout.   • Sarah did a great job helping me recover from a broken elbow.  She was a gymnast when she was younger, just like me, so I felt she understood how important recovery was to me.  She used many different things, like heat, ultrasound and explained what she was doing, and therefore the exercises made sense to me.  She was always positive, yet firm, so I felt reassured that I would get back to competing.  I liked how she measured my progress every session and I really liked how she asked her own mentors for suggestions.  I am back to successfully competing in gymnastics, as well as playing volleyball, basketball, badminton, and track.

  • I had a persistent pain in my right hip, went to the chiropractor a couple of times, the treatments did provide temporary relief but the pain soon returned.
    Made an appointment with Sarah at Altitude Athletic Therapy and was impressed by the very thorough assessment I received.
    Sarah was very detailed in the description of source of the problem and the solutions.
    Had two sessions with Sarah along with a set of exercises she suggested I do at home.

  • 5 years ago I was asked by a friend to join the ladies fitness class, Elevate! with Sarah Wiafe.
    I found out she is a Certified Athletic Therapist specializing in sport injuries. I booked an appointment with Sarah for what she could do for my old soccer injury. She gave me exercises to strengthen my legs. These exercises helped me for many years but 3 years ago I twisted my knee again on our farm and this time it swole very badly. With first seeing an ER Dr. and she send me to a knee specialists where an MRI was ordered. I was tired of waiting so I saw Sarah again and after assessing my knee she suspected that my ACL was torn 100% and probably my meniscus was damaged as well. 11 months and 2 1/2 weeks later I had my MRI. The results Sarah gave me were bang on!! Sarah was right!!. My ACL 100% torn and a piece of meniscus was folded backwards. With these results the knee specialists made an apt for me with the surgeon he works with in the Calgary South Health Campus, Dr. S. French. After I had met the surgeon he recommended me to start asap with strengthening my body, prepping for surgery. Of course, I asked Sarah to help me with that. I trust her f00%. She is always kind and caring, so positive in everything she does for me. She knows how to push me to do my exercises well and correctly.
    I would recommend Sarah Wiafe at Altitude to anyone who is looking for a sport therapist, Sarah is the one to have. She is truly a blessing to me.

  • Recently preparing for a two day road bike ride I pinched a nerve, which caused me  so much pain in my thumb I thought I would have to forfeit the ride. With 2 days to go Sarah used her expertise to get me back biking pain free. I was so impressed with her knowledge and skill.

  • My daughter and I have seen Sarah on different occasions for different reasons. Each time we were always greeted with friendliness and concern; and thanks to Sarah's knowledge and ability, by the end of our treatment we were back to functioning as before, or maybe even better! One time I was treated for a dislocated shoulder and needed to regain mobility, range and strength. Sarah went over the treatment plan with me, making sure it was reasonable with my schedule and let me know I would have homework to do! She worked me hard, but not more than I was capable. Thanks Sarah; I don't think my shoulder would be the same if we hadn't 'fixed" it together. And folks I say together because if you aren't willing to put in the work, aka homework, assigned your progress will be slow and minimal. Sarah is kind, knowledgeable and excellent at her job; listen to her advice, do the exercises and watch the progress!
